Our team is a Polish-Ukrainian tandem. We both speak Polish and Ukrainian. We are both interested in Polish and Ukrainian culture. Each of us has followed a different research path and mastered different scientific tools, which together allow us to examine the visuality of modern Ukrainian society.
Dr. Yana Hladyr is a philologist and literary scholar, a graduate of the University of Kryvyi Rih in Ukraine, and its long-term lecturer. In 2022, she obtained the title of associate professor. She specializes in the theory of literature, literature, and the Ukrainian language. Her doctorate was devoted to the issue of conflict in the works of the Ukrainian writer and politician Volodymyr Vynnychenko.The second specialization of the researcher is second-language acquisition. Since 2006, she has been teaching Ukrainian and Russian to foreigners. In 2021, she published (co-authored) a textbook for learning Ukrainian as a foreign language „Pозмовляємо українською”, which was approved in Ukraine as original scientific material.
Yana is a sports champion and spends her free time in the gym.
Dr. Ewa Wróblewska-Trochimiuk is a culture studies expert specializing in the Slavic area. She works at the Institute of Slavic Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences. In her research, she examines the intersections of visual culture and political ideas, mainly in the former Yugoslav countries, but also in the wider Central European region. She explores political images, visual representations of political concepts, and images of resistance and dissent. Her monograph “The Art of the Margins”, devoted to the political poster in Croatia, was published in Polish in 2018 and in Croatian in 2019.
For Ewa, motion is not just a physical phenomenon, but a philosophical principle.
